Projection mapping

Animation and sound composed for a particular place.

Projection mapping aligns moving imagery with a surface such as a building, sculpture or stage set. The surface becomes part of the composition. It can be a timed audiovisual work or part of an audience-responsive experience.

What does Georgie’s work demonstrate?

The Geelong portfolio shows architecture treated as a gift being unwrapped, with animation and original music developed around celebration and cultural diversity. The project demonstrates authored audiovisual storytelling. It is distinct from a system in which the public changes the work in real time.

What information helps establish feasibility?

Share photographs, drawings or a survey of the surface, intended viewing positions and proposed operating times. Identify ambient light, access, nearby activity and any sound restrictions. The creative and technical team can then discuss what requires further assessment; a photograph alone does not confirm a projection specification.

Who supplies equipment and operates the work?

Agree this explicitly with the lead producer. Creative content, projection systems, power, rigging, sound, installation and operation may involve different suppliers. A content commission should not be assumed to include the full event system. Document playback formats, approvals, rehearsals and handover responsibilities.

What affects schedule and budget?

The surface and its complexity, original animation, music, approvals, access windows and production interfaces all shape the scope. Allow time for site information, content review, technical testing and rehearsal. A new facade or event should not inherit a previous project’s price or lead time without assessment.

Can a previous work move to another building?

Sometimes an artwork can inform a new presentation, but adaptation is a separate question. Surface geometry, story, audience, rights, equipment and operating conditions all need review. A successful screening elsewhere is a useful reference, rather than proof that the same content can be transferred unchanged.
