BADC 50TH ANNIVERSARY AFTER-PARTY
For the Brisbane Advertising and Design Club’s 50th anniversary after-party, Georgie Pinn created an animated introduction and a six-minute visual reel for The Star Brisbane’s panoramic event screen. Built for a room full of people who make moving images for a living, the work turned Light + Shade’s introduction into a moment of theatre, then kept the space alive throughout the party.
Case study
The room becomes the screen
The Creative Opportunity
Light + Shade wanted its sponsorship of the after-party to make an impression from the first moment. The event space was large, with permanent lighting and difficult projection surfaces. After visiting the venue and exploring other options, the team focused on the existing wide screen.
The challenge was to make content that would hold together across its extreme horizontal shape while still giving individual images room to breathe.
The Experience
The opening began with the room and screen going dark. Glitching graphics and a rising soundtrack built anticipation before the motion reel entered on the beat. When the introduction ended, the house DJ took over and the longer reel could continue without its opening sequence.
Georgie shaped Light + Shade’s footage and stills into a six-minute loop, grouping the material by feeling—wonder, family, heroes, comedy and travel. She mirrored and duplicated selected images to suit the panoramic composition, so the screen felt deliberately filled rather than stretched.
What Was Delivered
Georgie supplied the animated introduction and the longer after-party reel, then revised shots in response to Light + Shade’s feedback. The technical correspondence specifies a 9216 × 1536 pixel, 25 fps screen format. Georgie prepared a high-resolution introduction for the team’s final sound work and a separate showreel file for playback.
Public Value And Next Application
Content Made For The Room
The project began with the venue, its lighting and the shape of its screen. That practical understanding guided the creative: a blackout and timed opening for collective attention, followed by a visual rhythm that could live alongside the DJ and the movement of the party.
A Reel With An Emotional Arc
Rather than simply placing portfolio clips end to end, Georgie reorganised Light + Shade’s material around shifts in mood. The result let the agency show the range of its work while giving the audience a reason to keep watching.
Designing For An Unusual Canvas
At six times wider than it was high, the screen called for different compositional decisions from a standard film frame. Mirroring, duplication and careful placement helped footage and stills work across the full width without losing their subject.
A Useful Commissioning Step
For future events, bring the content maker into the room early. Confirm the screen map, playback format, lighting, sightlines and sound handover before the edit is locked. A short on-site test can then check that the intended moment lands at full scale.
